Common Name: Worm snake Scientific Name: Carphophis amoenus Identification: 8-13 inches. Brown or black above, pink below; eyes tiny; scales smooth. Habit: Worm snakes burrow in loose soil and leaf litter in deciduous forests. They have a small harmless spine on the tip of the tail. Distribution: Wooded uplands of the Florida Parishes and the area between Monroe and Tallulah. Comments: The worm snake is non-venomous.
